Northern Xscape Rentals Case Study
For this case study, I assessed the current sport vehicle rentals’ market and used my research insights to design an app to replace Northern Xscape Rentals’, a fictional company specializing in snowmobiles and jet skis rentals in three locations across Ontario, outdated website. In addition, I also designed the brand’s logo and visual identity.
Problem
Northern Xscape Rentals’ current website is outdated, with a booking system that becomes overwhelmed easily and often glitches during the booking process. This causes clients to become frustrated and requires them to contact the company by phone or email to ensure that their booking has been made successfully.

Solution
In order to provide a better user experience, I designed a new app for Northern Xscape Rentals. The app is a virtual one-stop-shop, allowing clients to complete the entire rental cycle with a click, from the onboarding process, to the final experience review.
Comparative Analysis
Of the brands I researched, Click & Boat’s app stood out as providing the strongest user experience: it is easy to use, contains a refined search engine, and allows for easy bookings management. However, it does not provide a seamless, single platform experience to users. Thus, to differentiate Northern Xscape Rentals’s app from other sport vehicles rental platforms, it should not only be as complete as a website would be, but also be more intuitive to use.

User Persona
This persona isn’t interested in weighing pros and cons to find the most optimized option, but rather wants a quick and easy process that will allow them to have fun without getting a headache from all the planning. Thus, I have kept the app’s workflow simple and open to avoid overwhelming the user, and make all important features available at a glance.

Sketched Storyboard
Creating this sketched storyboard allowed me to isolate the events that are crucial for users to reach their goals, and thus identify which features to focus on when designing the app. The crucial features that I identified are the registration, the onboarding, the search filters, the booking system, and the booking history.

Prototype
My research led me to create a low-fidelity prototype, which can take users through the entire user flow. Then, I incorporated Northern Xscape Rentals’s visual identity in the high-fidelity prototype. Try the final high-fidelity prototype for yourself!
